The host: Californian sea lions, Zalophus californianus
The disease: Anisakid nematods are common endoparasites of fish. Although the pathology causing to the fish is not significant, these parasites can cause disease to humans. The disease called anisakiasis and it is connected with the consumption of raw or undercooked fish. Live anidakid larvae can invade the human stomach or gut causing significant problems.
Epidemiology: Parasitic nematodes can be found throughout the year in many different fish species.
